23 Gulfstream Range and Capabilities Offshore

I have a Gulfstream with twin f150s and I regularly run the boat to the canyons out of Ocean City, MD. The furthest I've been from the inlet is 72 miles. I always keep an eye on the weather and try to run with a buddy boat. The boat can handle a lot more than my body can.

    2006 sailfish 282

Interesting thread. I'm thinking about moving up to a 282 from the 232 as well, basically for the same reasons. By chance was this 282 in Pasadena, MD? I saw a 2006 for sale there but didn't have a chance to take a look at it. Have you sea trialed a 282 yet? If so, what are you thoughts...

Looking for Real World 282 Sailfish Performance #s

BC282, Thanks for the reply. Those #s seem very impressive, in fact there are very close to what I see with my 232 Gulfstream. Just need to decide whether or not I want to sell a great boat.

Looking for Real World 282 Sailfish Performance #s

Thanks for the replies. The test data I have from Grady was dated 5/4/01 and they were running 15 1/4" x 19 props. The results were as follows: RPM MPH GPH MPG 1000 5.6 2.5...

Looking for Real World 282 Sailfish Performance #s

I'm kicking around the idea of moving up from my current 232 with f150s to a 282 with f225s but I'm a bit concerned about how much more fuel I may burn. I've compared the performance specs on the Grady site and it seems to be about a 10%-15% difference. When we spend the day trolling the...

    Gulfstream fuel efficiency

I hate to tell you but those numbers are pretty accurate. I have a 2000 Gulfstream that when I purchased it was powered with 150hp OX66s and I was averaging 1.3-1.5mpg during an offshore trip. I repowered a few years ago with a pair of f150s and now my cruise is 3900rpm 27mph and 2.0-2.2mpg...

    Wise Boat Seat Parts???

My 2000 Gulfstream has the Wise Ladder Back helm seats and the L-brackets for the back support are slightly bent on the companion seat. I've searched the internet for the brackets to no avail and I've contacted Wise and they don't sell directly to the public. Wise recommended that I try a few...

    Gas assisted spring piston needed.

Check on Ebay under Grady White, Taylor Marine often lists them there. When I replaced mine I ordered from Ameritool and they were more expensive than what Taylor Marine lists them for on Ebay.

    Aft jump seats? (222 Fisherman)

I used to have a 222 Fisherman and I will say there are some pros and cons to the jump seats. The pro is added additional seating for your crew but the con was when you had 2 people seating on them it made the boat somewhat heavy in the stern and often difficult to get on plane. My boat had a...

    Adding a Downrigger to a 232 Gulfstream

I'm planning to add a Penn downrigger to my 232 Gulfstream this season when fishing for tuna and wahoo. I recently purchased a used downrigger that is equipped to the rod holder mount, this seems to be my perferred method since I would like to remove the downrigger when not in use. My question...

Trading down to Gulfstream from Sailfish 272

I run a 2000 Gulfstream with twin Yamaha 150 4 strokes. I typically fish the boat offshore out of Ocean City, MD and can honestly say the boat handles more than I can. It is a great handling boat with a huge cockpit. The cockpit on my boat feels nearly as large as my friends 282 Sailfish...

    bunk glides

I have the slick bunks covers on my trailer and it amazes how easy it is to crank my Gulfstream up the last 12"-18". In comparison I also have a 17' Boston Whaler with just carpet on the bunks and it requires a lot more effort to crank the boat all the way up.

    intro and 228 vs 232 vs 258

The 232 is a great boat and sounds like it should fit your needs well. I have a 2000 Gulfstream that I repowered with a pair of Yamaha f150s. I do think the performance data on the Grady site may be a little overstated but the f150s still get great fuel economy in my opinion. I typically fish...

    Gulfstream Owners with Bunk Trailers

Thanks, it would be great if you could provide me with some more specific measurements when you get the chance. I just bought the trailer used so I making a few repairs/modifications and I hope to pull the boat for the season in the next few weeks.

    Gulfstream Owners with Bunk Trailers

Thanks for the reply. I spoke with Grady today and they recommended that the bunks be set at either 35" or 61". Somewhat concerned that 35" may make the boat too tipsie on the trailer and 61" may have the hull hitting the crossmembers while loading and unloading. Any idea where you set your...

What can a gulf stream take

The Gulfstream is a great boat and like others have said it will probably take more of a beating than your crew is willing to endure. I regularly run mine to the canyons of the mid-atlantic (50 plus miles). There have been a few occasions where I've been much further inshore and decided to...

    Gulfstream Owners with Bunk Trailers

I just purchased a used boat trailer to handle my 2000 Gulfstream. My boat is in the water and I want to adjust the bunks as close as possible before pulling the boat. The dealer did not offer any real assistance. If there are any Gulfstream owners that use a bunk trailer, could you please...

    Electronics upgrade 232 Gulf Stream

I removedthe plexiglass cover atthe helm and fabricated a piece a starboard to fitin the open space. Ithen added a Raymarine 435C chartplotter and Furuno 1715 radar displayin that area. My overhead electronics box holds my furuno fish finder. Ideally I would have preferred to havethe radar...

Trolling squid bars on a Gulfstream

I have a Gulfstream and we typically troll 9 or 10 lines when fishing offshore for tuna, mahi, and marlin. We usually run 2 - 3 spreader bars. I added an extra set of gunnel rod holders and we will usually run on bar on each side of the boat from the rod tips. If the seas are relatively calm...

    Deluxe Helm Seats

I have a 2000 Gulfstream with the deluxe ladder back helm seats but the L brackets that connect the base to the seat back on the companion seat seem to be slightly bent back. I think the previous owner may have leaned a little too far back and now it has somewhat of a recliner feeling. It...
