    repower from johnson to yamaha

I am considering repowering to a 200 yamaha from a 225 johnson. My question is what would I have to do aside from swapping out the controls and the ignition switch. I have hydraulic steering on the boat would that just bolt up ? Also the mounting holes to mount the engine would they have to be...

    Trailoring a 25' sailfish

Thanks for your replys. I ask this question because we are considering getting a bigger boat next year. I would only be trailering it to the ramp to put it in for the season and to take it out at the end of the season. What does the permit cost?

    Trailoring a 25' sailfish

Do you need a permit to trailer this boat because of its beam? If so where would you get one?

    electrical question

Thanks for your replys, I will separate the feeds and ground. I never tried the nav lights and the trim tabs at the same time, but I will to see if there is a difference. There is no difference in the lights with the motor running or not, are you leaning towards the alternator?

    electrical question

I do have the feed for the gps off of the same terminal strip as the trim tabs, so maybe if I move the feed to an auxillary terminal strip that is on the port side it might fix the problem. I also had the batteries tested and they were good.

    electrical question

I have a Garmin gps/chartplotter/depth finder.Sometimes when I use the trim tabs the gps will turn off. Is this due to a voltage drop when the trim tab pump starts? The boat is an 82 223 Tournament and everything electrical on the boat works. What would be a fix for this?

    looking to upgrade next year

Thanks guys, the motor is an 87 225 Johnson. So the relays are under the hood, I will check that out tomorrow. Is the relay a readily available part from an omc dealer?

    motor won't tilt up

Just got back from a nice ride tonight and when we were back at the slip ready to leave I hit the trim switch to lift the motor and nothing happened. The trim works in the down position. The controls are original to the engine which is a 1987 Johnson. The trim/tilt switch is located in the shift...

Ring Free No, I don't have a Yamaha just an old Johnson with low compression in one cylinder, looking for a miracle cure.

Ring Free I just read your post and it's the first time I have heard about Ring Free. Is this something you use for routine maintenence or is it to free stuck rings?

    vhf radio question

Thanks for your replys. I took the boat out tonight and the radio worked well. I was concerned because I had to solder the tip of the ant. connector to the cable and I thought maybe the solder joint wasn't any good. I am going to program those channels in to the scan mode and see how it works...

    vhf radio question

Just started using our boat with a new radio (never had a vhf before) and I don't hear any transmissions other than the weather forecast just wondering what I might have done wrong? I just thought there would be a lot of talking going on out there. Thanks.

    gps and transducer question

Thanks for your replys. My boat is a 223 Tournament and will be in Long Island sound primarily. As for the type of boating we will do it's a mixed bag, fishing ,tubing, cruising. I wanted a depth finder because it's pretty rocky around our immediate area. Any suggestions on the type of equipment...

    looking for some advice

You bring up very good points. I'm going to call my mechanic tomorrow and discuss this further. As far as the coking problem, if I were to de-carbon the engine what are the chances it would free up that ring?
