Installing a Paddle Board holder on the side of a 335 Freedom

I purchased these a few years ago for my 268 Islander. SUPRAX™ Stand-Up Paddleboard Boat Rack with Extra Sling They work well but it is a chore to load/ unload 12' paddle boards. I do not leave them on the rails permanently, which increases the chance of dropping the mounting hardware in the...

1995 Islander 268 Removing fuel Tank

I attempted to remove my '95 268 Islander 134 gallon tank by cutting the bulkhead directly behind the tank. With said bulkhead removed, the tank would not come out due the length of the tank in relation to the steps. I toyed with the idea of cutting the bulkhead forward of the batteries to see...

    scuppers on a marlin

I do not have the same boat, but, when I replaced my deck drain hoses & scuppers I had to cut out an access hole in the deck to get to them. I cut out a 10 inch circle and got an Armstrong access plate to cover the hole. At first I was no too happy that I had to cut a hole and install an...

    pull 268 Islander fuel tank

I cut the bulk head at the aft end of the tank and was not able to get it out. The tank was too long. It hit the bulk head forward of the bilge pump/ battery "compartment" before there was enough room to lift it out of the space. At the time, I was not willing to cut that bulkhead as well just...

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

I would say it looks a little less "clean" than the screw or pry out type installed as original equipment. This could be because the originals are recessed into the deck and the armstrong sits directly on top of the deck. And IMO the armstrong design is aesthetically less "clean" to begin with...

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

UPDATE: I pulled the boat out & took on the project. I did the Port side first to see how difficult removal of the hoses from the fittings would be. They took a little coercion and contortion to get them out but anyone with some skills would have no trouble. I could reach the hose clamps...

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

Thanks for the update and the info on armstrong deck plates. I don't have any experience with armstrong but I am going to give them a try for this project.

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

My 95 268 Islander has even less access than that! When I get around to doing the job (hopefully before the summer) I'll try to post some pics. I'm probably just going to cut the deck forward of the deck drains and cover the hole with a plastic access plate. I'm not about to kill myself to...

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

Thanks for all the replies! Roberth I wish GW would have kept with your style access design, as the newer design offers absolutely no access on the stbd side. I can see the drain hoses on the port side and they are badly cracked/ dry rotted, definitely in need of replacement. 1st Grady, I...

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

I have a 1995 268 Islander which is long over due for cockpit deck drain hose replacements . Unfortunately there is no way (that I can figure) to access the starboard side without cutting an access plate into the deck. In fact the port side may be easier to do if I cut into the deck as well...

    Gas tank replacement

abielecki, I saw your post regarding your 1995 Islander fuel tank removal. I have a 1995 Islander and have to replace the 134 gal tank. If you don't mind I would like to ask you some questions on how you removed the tank. I cut out the transverse bulkhead located aft of the tank and slid...

    1995 Islander 268 re-power question

By my calculations the Suzuki 175's would add an additional 200 lbs aft, minus the weight of the 2cycle oil tanks. My self bailing scuppers are currently barely above the waterline with no weight on the boat. In fact, I have to keep bottom paint on the lower half to prevent marine growth. The...

    1995 Islander 268 re-power question

I have seriously considered going with a single 300, but I really like the handling and redundancy of having twins. How is ther fuel consumption with the 300, I wonder if there is a big difference between single 300 & twin 150 (both 4s). I called GW (again) and they said that 4 strokes in...

    1995 Islander 268 re-power question

Thanks Brian. Weight is a concern for me, the older islander's were built with a "step" type hull/ euro transom design and 4 strokes are not necessarily the best fit due to weight. Also, I believe my boat has gained a little weight over the years as the deck drain scuppers are barely above the...

    1995 Islander 268 re-power question

Looking to repower my original twin 175 evinrudes to 2 stroke 150's, but I just came across a great deal on twin Suzuki 140 four strokes. The weight of the 140 four strokes is the same as the original 175's, but I'm thinking the boat will be underpowered if i go with the twin 140's. Looking...
