    Low oil alarm

Last weekend on way back to dock the low oil alarm sounded. Checked remote tank and it had maybe 1-2 inches of oil. added what I had on boat (2 quarts) but never thought to check the reservoir under the cover. Limped back for two miles at 1900 rpm with alarm on the whole time. At dock filled...

    Fishfinder next to GPS

Greetings all. About 5 years ago I mounted the Garmin 188 chart plotter (gps) and have been happy with it, this Christmas was given a Garmin 500c fish finder (it has a transom mount transducer) and want to mount it as well. Would have been nice to have one unit perform both functions but can't...

    Steering Fluid

I've got a small bit of play in my steering, a small skipping feeling. I want to top off the fluid and bleed the line before diagnosing further. What fluid would I put in - the motor is a 1998 yamaha 250 2 stroke. No idea what steering system I have (Seastar or not?). Do I use hydrolic fluid...

Imagine if you were changing out the frsh water pump under the gunnel, the puddles always start back there after rains or a good cleaning...

    Wiper

I know I know ANOTHER stupid question about wipers..Here's my scenario - my wiper blade flew off, leaving me with the wiper mechanism (the wide piece that has the spring loaded onto it) and a flat metal bar that is inserted into the mechanism and held tight by a small lever. The lever tightens...

Anyone ever replace the wiper on a 22 seafarer? Mine flew off last weekend, I'm left with the arm without the bushing and screw that held the arm. Anyone have the size?

    Thru hull dimensions

have to replace 1 or two thru hulls this weekend. Jeff at GW customer service is sending me via email some info, but before I get it does anyone know the dimensions of the thru hulls on a 1992 Seafarer? Jeff also told me to go with the reinforced nylon versus metal. Claims they nylon is made...

    Sad Day - Take Heed

These were cut/pasted from Newsday.com. Big lessons in here for all of us. Marty was a popular guy, very capable and respected. First is the article, second is his 16 year old son's verbal account: Westbury man drowns in Block Island Sound accident BY BILL BLEYER | bill.bleyer@newsday.com...

    DIY Livewell

Anyone ever convert one of the fishboxes on a Seafarer (or similar) into a livewell? Is it possible? I have a salt water washdown that could be used for the intake, and the existing boxes have thru-hulls for drainage, seems like all I need to add is circulation/aeration??

    Hurricane Season 2008

Good Luck to all mariners (weekend and otherwise) over the next few days. Hannah, Ike, Josephine...weather on the east coast is going to be tough on all of us. Put in extra lines, check the bilge pumps, and lets all make it through without a bad story between us. Be safe.

    Alarm and gauge questions

I have two yamaha gauges - mounted on the right side is the tach, gauge on the left shows speed, fuel level, etc. This one has 4 dummy indicators, and I must be dummer than they were intended for. From right to left on bottom of gauge: far right is a green circle which I believe indicates a...

    Bad gas - Ethanol?

Had engine hiccups the other day, couldn't maintain rpm, lots of coughing. I had just put 25 gallons of fuel in so that was my first thought - bad gas, or filter clogged up from the e10 gasoline. Didn't have an extra filter and was heading to beach for the weekend so had to wait it out...

    home made live well

My 226 doesnt have a live well, so I want to rig one up. Anybody ever done similar? I'm thinking of a small plastic garbage can - maybe 20-25 gallons, with three holes drilled into it. One for the inlet (connect directly to SW washdown), and another for a gravity drain and another for a bilge...

New York - Great South Bay

One week old report, but worth waiting for: Left the dock 2 hours after the PM high tide on 6/25, heading for a promising rip. Drifted bunker chunks. Once tide changed to outgoing, I set up the drift over the spot I've been studying for weeks, and wham, pole goes down hard, line peels away...

    Great South Bay Flounder

Fished a friends boat on Sunday morning, (215 aquasport) since mine is still in hibernation. Anchored up by 6:45 AM. Heckscher Flats for a while, then Nichols Point. 38 degrees, winds 10-15 (reported) but I'd swear 20 plus, no sunshine. Mussel chum and sand worms. 3 3/4 hours, two fish, first...
