If you re-read his post, he said it was NOT grounded

    Hydraulic steering repair

the shaft seal replacement kit is fairly cheap, I mean you're talking about a couple of o-rings and I think they throw in the wrench for it too. You'll also need the steering fluid and the refill kit for that. The problem you will likely find will be the bolts on either end of the shaft will...

    Bad News….

well actually you found it to be the current owner's problem, since YOU have to fix it. He probably replaced the sending unit or a hose, saw a mysterious wire to the tank, and disconnected it. Good thing you didn't have a short somewhere to cause a spark and explosion.

    Atlantic 26

I like them and wish I had one! When they came out, the concept of a flybridge boat w/ OB's was new.

    Nightime Colliison w/28" Metal Buoy

The tapping test works for wet sections of hulls and voids in the epoxy below the gelcoat. Wet wood and empty voids cause different sounds than a solid hull. Its not going to tell you anything about a brand new gash in your hull, unless you've allowed water to intrude and saturate the core...

I don't know if its funny or sad when someone asks if a little rubber gasket has any value.... :jaw

    transom question

A plain transom (normally "notched transom") is a straight flat stern with the motor mounted directly to the stern. Grady 226 A bracketed transom has some sort of motor bracket mounted to the transom, which holds the motor back 1-3' from the transom. Grady 228 A eurotransom has what I'd call...

port a poti with macerator- Where's the #2 go?

I thought you had to be 25 miles offshore before you could unload your toilet holding tank.

    Seacock valve frozen on Marlin...

First it could be a physical blockage. Second, if you got such a good deal on the boat, then do yourself a favor and hire a surveyor to go over the boat. He/she will find things that you would only "discover" at a bad time.

    Battery Drain

Check to see if you have the non-float switch/non-mercury float bilge pumps that cycle on every 10 minutes to sense if water is present. I got one of them and it would drain my battery after a few weeks in the slip.

Zinc Skeg Adjustment to cure pull ??

zinc should not be centered. Which is how the service guys installed mine. I can't say which direction but you need to put it offset a few notches one way or the other. Sorry can't say which direction.

    228G or 232?

My 1988 228 doesn't have any sink. It also won't sleep 2 adults + 2 kids, unless the kids are on the deck. It barely sleeps me (6'2") and my wife (5'2"). You say you don't care about or need a head, but trust me if you have wife and kids you do need a port-a-potty, which my 228 has. Not...

    survey results

I think its a bit overpriced for the condition you describe. Even w/ a functioning motor. Assume you'll need to repower in 5 years ($10-20K depending on power) because either the motor has never been used (extremely low hours) or its old and ready to go anyhow. Without delamination, I'd...

    This Grady seems Shady

Unfortunately noone on this board would be able to tell you if its freshwater intrusion or from submersion. But, that shouldn't matter if engine and electric works. Rotten stringers and deck panels are common in old Gradys, and my 88 Seafarer likes to take rainwater water into the bilge. You...

Help settle a Ring Free debate.

Its only a waste of money until your O2 sensor goes. I don't know if other OBs like Mercs require additives. But I always use Ring-Free. Like was stated above, your friend is probably wasting money by using Sta-Bil if he uses the boat regularly. But Ring-Free is completely different product.
