    Hull / Gelcoat Damage?

I'm sorry to say your damage looks a bit rough. Like others have said, some of the pictures appear as if there was a previous repair that didn't bond correctly. That can happen for a number of reasons. At the end of the day, the only real solution that I know of is to remove the area where...

    Water in middle

I've had water in the bilge from forgetting to connect the salt water wash down and live well lines. They push water out when on plane due to the high speed pickups. If you have a crack they'll probably find it when you're moving. Sit still, nothing happens.

    228 livewell question

I've had the live well overflow when the plug was left in. From there, it can easily make it into the bilge if the seal isn't perfect. I've also had my ice melted by salt water coming in.

    Toilet for 2005 seafarer 228

For something that's used very rarely, the porta pot with built in holding tank is the way to go. No sense overthinking the situation. If, for some reason, someone really blows up the porta pot, you also have the option of throwing the whole thing out. I'm not joking, it's a nice option...

Repower to Suzuki 300’s need pros/cons

Who did you choose to do the repower? I saw Danny's Marine mentioned earlier in the posts. I had them repower my 228 a couple years back to a Suzuki 250ap and was very happy with their work and communication. The Suzuki has been great. You can service yourself if you choose, which I've done...

    Cockpit cover

I would like something like this too. I was thinking of something that attached to the stainless rings on the transom so I didn't need to install snaps. I have a grady 228 from 2003. Perhaps others would like to join a group buy!

Wax toilet ring is always on the boat. Simple and cheap.

    Nautical Miles/ 228 Seafarer

I don't know about the current models, but I've got a 2003 with a suzuki 250 AP. It holds a little under 100 gallons and gets about 2.5 miles per gallon. If I'm conservative it can get a little over 3 mpg. If you figure 1/3 to get there, 1/3 to get back, and 1/3 in reserve, you get a range of...

Should bracket on 228 be air tight

Is a bracket that's air tight a problem? Just about every boat compartment I know of can breath. Are these brackets built tough enough to withstand large temperature changes if sealed completely? To get to this point, I read all the threads on how to seal a bracket. After following them...

Steering on my 2007 Seafarer has some play at slow speeds.

I had to bleed mine a couple times to get the play out. I wouldn't give up on a 2007 system without trying again as it's not just the hardware you're buying, you'll still have to bleed the new system. There is a guide with pictures on thehulltruth. Give the bubbles time to rise in the capture...

    Seafarer Livewell removal

Mine came out with a little wiggling. It's a tight fit for sure. If you run it without the livewell installed don't forget to cap off the drain. I remembered the seacock but noticed water coming in when launching from the livewell drain.

Usually people don't gel coat a boat, they paint it. Imron, awlgrip, or the like.

Deck Scupper drains on 228 Seafarer

The seal around my drains started leaking, not the drains or hoses themselves. I think this was due to the bedding compound being old and when the hoses were replaced the force of getting them onto the drains began the process of breaking them free. Once I looked at the drains, I realized they...

    Ideas to drain reserve tank

I'd do this. There were a couple gallons in the bottom of my tank on a 228 that I needed to remove after the fuel pickup couldn't pickup anymore. Cut the sender, pull out all old fuel. Rinse the tank with some alcohol to remove varnish and you're off.

    Grady 226 tow vehicle

I pull a 228 with a 2017 f150 ecoboost 3.5 crew cab with towing package. I'm getting about 20 around town and maybe 11 with the boat in tow. Mine doesn't like going much over 60 when towing, but that's probably a trailer issue. I've noticed the same thing with other larger trucks. Trailer...

    Need a plan

I think we've all felt like you feel right now at some point. I feel that way about every time I'm facing a boat issue I don't understand or haven't tackled before and it looks like the price tag is high. You've put a lot into the boat. Like you, I'd be expecting to use it. In times like...

water in bilge of 1999 sailfish..scupper problem?

I had an issue with the deck drain bedding compound on a 228. The seals were broken and water entered the bilge when it rained and when water was on the deck during fishing. I would check the seals around the deck hardware first.

    2001 226 trim tabs

I've got a 2003 228. The tabs work whether the engine is running or not. My switches went bad and needed to be replaced. If it's the pump, that's the costlier of the system parts. If your fluid is leaking then you should have a bunch of red fluid in the bilge or leaking out the rams on the...

Preparing to go offshore - Atlantic Ocean

Took my 228 out of Hatteras. Like everyone, you pick your days. Our safety inventory included an --EPIRB (Nice one, there are different kinds. You can even rent one from West Marine) --Two radios --Wax ring (always on the boat, but I think they're better than plugs for versatility in...
