    Fiberglass work in Eastern NC

I am looking for a good fiberglass repair shop in the SE NC area. I have started seeing issues on my bow pulpit and the side of the hard top. The glass on the boat is fine , just the stuff bolted on is starting to have issues with the gel coat. :?:

    01 Islander Stereo wiring ?

I have a wired remote for my stereo factory mounted on the left side of the helm area. I have replaced the radio and it has a wireless remote. I want to run a 1/8 wire for my I Pod along the same path as the wired remote. Does anyone know the path the wired remote takes from the helm to the...

How many Grady owners carry spare props on board?

I run Mercury Mirage props so all I need is a spare flo torq hub kit. In most cases the plastic/nylon hub will shatter before any prop damage occurs and the Merc props give me much better mid range and overall performance than the yammy props did.

    HPDI Issue

It sounds to me like that engine is in fail safe mode due to a code being set off in the computer. Check you horns and maybe have a tech run a download to see if any codes are being set off/overheat/low oil/water in fuel/ etc. Some of these are easy to check yourself, water in the clear fuel...

Dual Engine Wiring on my Islander ?

My 2001 Islander has 200 HPDI motors with the original Yamaha gauges. I had a overheat alarm go off during idle last week and after diagnosing I found both motors are linked together. If one alarm goes off it sets off both alarms. Is this normal rigging? This would be a pain to be offshore...

    268 Islander... Wet, Rough ride?

I just noticed your boat was a 1995 and does not have the extended running surface that was changed in 2000 I think. This does make a difference and makes the boat act longer but I can't see it being that much of a difference.

    268 Islander... Wet, Rough ride?

I use mine all the time with regular runs 70 miles to the Stream out of Ocean Isle and have no such problems. The high free board and narrow beam require some finesse but it is a hell of a lot drier than a friends 32 CC that shall remain unnamed. If I am running 27 knts. into a 2 to 4...

    268 Islander??

I love my 01 Islander and have had no problems in 2 years of ownership and 250 hrs. of use. I have 200 hpdi's on mine and I burn app. 8GPH per engine @ 28/30 knots. I think carbed engines would burn a good bit more based on my past experience with carbed Yammys and OMC motors. I would...

    Duel Fuel Tank Management

This is what I do on the Islander, I have the aux. tank forward and the main tank aft. I usually alternate but I sometimes burn the aux off first so I can control the bow better (keep her light from the helm forward so it will not ride fat) Be sure to keep good notes in your log book on...

    Stumped with a wet cabin

Pull the Rub Rail out enough to see the screws and check them. I had the same problem on my Islander and found some of the screws backed out just a turn or 2 and it was letting in rain/wash water. It was in the area of the front cleat and I believe it was caused by the boat being tied up at the...

    Newbie Question - 272 w/ Hondas

If that hull has the extended running surface it will certainly do better than the older hull where the running surface stopped short / app.18 inches. I think the Honda's are the lightest wt. in that HR rating and the wide beam of the 272 will help. Grady customer service can help out as the...

Cockpit Bolster repair in Southeastern NC ?

I need to get the cockpit bolsters recovered on my Islander. I plan to remove and take them to the shop, does anyone know of a shop in the Wilmington/OIB area that can do a good job on these?

Sad News, Kay Crocker passed away

I met Kay in the early 90's during one of the trips to Ocracoke and have considered him a friend ever since. He always had a kind word and seemed to really enjoy life. He will be greatly missed.

Best GW, Trailerable, Off Shore, Post SeaV2

I will throw my vote in for a 268/270 Islander with twins,8.5 beam, cabin and I tow mine a good bit with a 2006 F150 Super Crew and have had no problems.

    270 Islander

You can't beat the 200 HPDI's, they are fantastic engines and have one of the best HP to weight ratios out there. I have put over 175 trouble free hrs. on mine in the 16 months I have had the boat and love them( it had 200 hrs. when I bought it). I get an overall average of 1.8 to 2.0 MPG on...

    270 Islander

As far as speed with a full load of fuel(200) gallons, fully loaded ready to fish and full curtains I can bounce all over 45/46 MPH. I think I could hit 50 with a lite load and no curtains but I never run that way.

    270 Islander

My 2001 268 has the extended running surface and is rated for 500 HP. It came factory equipped with 200 HPDI's, I do not know what changes Grady made with the 2002 270 but the running surface was extended before they changed it to the 270 Islander. BTY, I love mine and twins is the only way...

    gulfstream vs islander

Brian gives great advice on the Islander and he knows his stuff. I looked for a 272 Sailfish for a long time and stumbled on my 268 Islander with 200 HPDI's in March of 07.I had heard stories of the fuel consumption on the 272 being high and I wanted to tow on occasion also so I decided on the...

Access to guages on my 268 Islander

Thanks Brian, I was able to access it from under the helm. The factory had the harness tie wrapped tight near the windshield washer/fire ext. area,I just had to cut 1 zip tie to get some extra harness.

Access to guages on my 268 Islander

I have to replace the fuel management gauge on my 268 Islander and I have a question. I pulled the 6 screws and the front plate to expose the back of the gauges but the plug for the FMG runs down under the compass area, how is this accessed? Is it from under the helm or a panel in the head. I...
