Our 1988 Seafarer had a strong gasoline odor right after a fill up. I thought it was a tank leak but it turned out to be a badly deteriorated filler hose from the filler neck to the tank.

Thanks for your input. I did a little research on these engines today and found that most exhaust housing failures on these engines were on year 2000 thru 2005 and occur in the 500 to 750 hour range.

I found a used Yamaha 225 with all the controls and cables to replace the tired old Johnson 200 on my 1988 Seafarer. The Yamaha has 785 hours on it and is listed as a left hand rotation engine. Could you please tell me some of the issues of this engine I can look for?

The fuel sender in the 95 gallon fuel tank of our 1988 Seafarer needs to be replaced. Does anyone know the depth of the tank so I can order the correct sending unit ? I can't remove the sender without first removing the forward floor panel, so I am trying to get this information before my next...

Update!!! After checking every blue and green wire under the engine cowling I decided to snip the two blue wires that go to the tilt limit switch and butt connect them together, tilt works fine now.

Thanks, I did some research and found out that there are two hidden 20A fuses in the circuit, could be a possibility. Also found that I can run a jumper wire between two terminals of the up relay and at least get the engine tilted up.

No, the motor only runs when I press the down switch and I can hear the down solenoid click. I don't hear the up solenoid click at all.

Well, we finally got to launch "Dads Girl" Saturday and the big thirsty 1999 Johnson 200 ran great with one issue. The power tilt lowers the engine but will not raise it. I switched the relays for raise and lower, but no help. Neither the switch on the control lever or engine will raise it only...

I thought about grinding it flush, drilling it out, and installing one of those plastid garboard plugs right in place. It looks like once I drill the center out, all I have to do is drill and tap three mounting holes for the new drain plug and seal it with 5200.

The plug is steel, seems like a common pipe plug. I'll try some PB Blaster and see if that helps and replace it with plastic. Thanks for the info.

I even had a small pipe wrench on it and all that does is chew the plug up. I was thinking of using a little heat.

The drain plug on the bottom of the Grady bracket on our 1988 Seafarer will not come out. Would there be a problem if I drill a hole next to it and install a drain plug similar to what is used on the transom drain ? I believe our bracket was made by Springfield back in the day.
