Making 24 offshore open transom safer offshore...

I've been thinking of solving the same issue on several boats I'm interested in. If you add a small bracket or jack plate, 12"-18" setback or so, you can tilt the engine up w/out having to fold down the bulkhead. Then you can make the bulkhead fixed by either bolting or fiberglassing it in...

Fixing rusty balljoint on end of seacock pushrod

This is the second time I had to do the job. I'm glad I read the thread. I ordered the replacement parts (clevis style) from Grady. The next day they showed up at my doorstep. Defiantly a better solution than the ball joint. I'm confident it'll be the last time I have to do it. Thank you!!!!

I just had the same question for my boat. I sent grady customer service an email. They responded right away! Unbelievable support for a 30 year old boat.

    What is this wire for?

I have the same problem but my symptom was sluggish starting. My engine power cable was corroded at the lug to wire connection to the point that only a pencil lead thickness of wire was left. I pealed back the insulation and the wire was black and tarnished on both + & -. So, I'm replacing the...

    engine height

I'm pretty sure the trim sensor is mounted on the engine and has no relationship to the hole you use to mount the engine. Find the sensor and I think you find your answer.

    Fuel tank/lines - when do I replace?

I just did it on my 1987. I noticed a gas smell only when I filled it all the way. It would dissipate pretty quickly. I suspected that the fill hose became permeable. When I removed it I couldn't believe how deteriorated it was. I should have done the job sooner. You can inspect and squeeze...

    How to replace through hulls?

I have the exact boat. I had to replace mine first thing when I bought it. You can access the port side through the tackle locker. You have to remove the drawers and the box they slide into. There's a few screws holding the box in. With it out you can access the through hull. The starboard...

    Replacement Scupper Drain Hose

I did this job last year. I first tried the white spa hose. I had trouble compressing it around the fitting. They leaked a little. I found a metal reinforced clear hose at HD that seemed to work much better for me.

    Thanks! - fuel line replacement

The best advice I have is to go ahead and do the job if you think you need it. I put it off because I didn't want to open a can of worms. It turned out to be pretty straight forward and very very necessary. I couldn't believe how deteriorated the hoses were. My last task is to reconnect the...

    Thanks! - fuel line replacement

I just wanted to thank everyone that contributes to the forum. I just got around to replacing my fuel lines. Boy did they need it. I researched the forum for any tips I could find. The job went smoothly because I knew what to expect each step of the way and the little tricks I learned worked...

1987 228 Seafarer - which motor would you choose?

Is the 99' Johnson a FITCH? If so, that should weigh heavily on the decision.

Call your local dealer. It isn't that expensive. I tried looking for deals on ebay but my dealer was cheaper.

    87' Overnighter Fuel Fill Line

What size hoses will I need? I know the fill is 1 1/2". What is the size of the vent hose?

    87' Overnighter Fuel Fill Line

I'm replacing my fuel lines. I searched through the forum and read all the posts. Great info! I looked at how my fill and vent lines are run. They exit the fuel tank coffin through the stringer/bulkhead on the port side then run to the stern. I'm wondering if they routed it this way so it would...

    Hull flex?

Thanks Guys! Someday I hope to upgrade to an Offshore or Explorer.

    Hull flex?

Yes, I'm talking about the vertical sides of the hull, under the striping. In the general area between the rod holders. Not the gunwale itself. My boat flexes much less in that area but it's 4 ft. shorter.

    Refinishing a Grady bracket

I did something similar. I ground it clean. Then acid wash and anodized, Alumiprep & Alodine. Got the solutions from an airplane supply store online, Aircraft Spruce http://www.aircraftspruce.com/categories/building_materials/bm/menus/cs/metalprepsupplies.htm Then I painted it with Interlux...

    Hull flex?

I was checking out an old Offshore the other day. When I banged on the side of the hull midships, between the gunwale rod holders, it flexed and wobbled more than I expected. As I went forward or back it diminished. What is the structure that gives rigidity to the hull in that section? The deck...
