    Main Breaker Replacement

I've got an intermittent problem that I believe is due to a bad ground, so I started from the batteries and cleaned all of the connections I could up to the chartplotter which is showing the issue. Not surprisingly, there was some corrosion on the battery connections, the main ground stud, etc...

    228 FF transducer options?

I'm thinking of upgrading from my Airmar P66 (i.e., transom mounted) transducer to something higher power (1000W) for my 228g. My motivation is that this transducer has never read well while underway (prop wash/cavitation always causes false readings). Also, my ability to see bottom topography...

    Kvh Azimuth 1000

I'm thinking of installing a digital compass and was wondering if anybody has experience with the Kvh Azimuth 1000? One of the things I'm most concerned about is that I have very little helm space on my 228, so this compass would be really close to my 10" Furuno Chart Plotter so I'm worried that...

Best way to take off the stickers...

Yes, I'm just being lazy...I'm sure this topic has been posted before, but I thought it was fewer keystrokes to just ask: what's the easiest, safest way to remove all of the Grady stickers? Most of mine are somewhat scuffed-up and looking tired (I consider it a badge of honor because it shows...

    Main Breaker Replacement...

I have a 2003 228, but I've heard that the main breaker on Grady's is a common failure mode (i.e., that the breaker corrodes and becomes inoperative). Have any of you ever experienced this problem? Should I look into replacing this breaker (or at least inspecting it)? Breaker I'm referring to is...

    Plastic insert disintegrating...

The plastic insert that is next to my helm chair on my 03 228 has cracked in several spots and the screws that hold the Plexiglas piece totally disintegrated (probably from the salt air). What I'm referring to is that area where you can store stuff next to your seat (a cheesy piece of thin...

    Seacock problem

I know that this subject has been posted before, but I just had to vent. I tried to close my livewell seacock on my 2004 228 and something just broke and now the rod isn't attached to anything. I can't see the seacock, so I guess I have to take apart the whole freaken live well to get to the...

    Driving Screws into the transom?

I was installing a new washdown pump today and it made me nervous to be driving screws into the wood where the pump is mounted. My question is: is that wood actually the transom or is there an additional piece of plywood before the transom? Also, I put a dab of 4200 on my screws before...

    Ideas for making a table?

I'm not getting any younger, and lifting 50 lb crab pots over the gunnel and setting them on the deck is getting harder every year. So, I was thinking of making a plywood table or something that could straddle the gunnel next to my crab pot puller. That way, I could just pull the pot up onto the...

    Stupid idea or???

I keep my boat on a Hydrohoist lift. When I maneuver the boat into the lift, I then throw the engine in reverse to stop. It occurred to me today that this is kind of a waste of fuel. So, anyway, I thought to myself that I could tie a line from one side of the lift to the other with a fender...

    Wash-down pump trouble-shooting tips...

My washdown pump on my 2003 228 just stopped working. It's a shureflo. I wasn't able to find the fuse for this puppy. Any hints on how to start trouble-shooting this thing?

    Starting my yami after months...

So, maybe to you Midwesterners this is no big deal, but out here in California, normally, I make a practice of starting my engine (2003 Yami 225F) at least once every 1-2 weeks...regardless of whether or not I'm going out to fish. Well, we've had some major closures on the west coast recently...

    Cushions

Like many of you, I use my boat almost exclusively for fishing and crabbing. As a result, I've never found a use for all the myriad of cushions that came with the new boat...they just would be in the way and would get full of blood. To date, I've never once slept in my cabin...it's too full of...
