    Yamaha Engine Cowling Paint

Last fall, someone scraped up my engine cowling on my F200 pretty good with their anchor while trying to get into a slip. He gave me his name and phone number and when I called him, the number was not a working number. Great.....he was a transient and not a local person. So, I decided to do...

    In the Water

Charged the batteries and they held the charge.....splased her today after a really cold winter...engine fired right up, all electronics working...life is good. Saw a guy launching a small sail boat...backed too far down the ramp...ended up with his pick-up in the water up almost to the...

    2008 209 Fisherman with 175 Suzuki

Looking at a 209 Fisherman with a 175 Suzuki four stroke. Hardly any Susies in my neck of the woods. Any comments on that engine? Sea trial went very well.

    Article on Yamaha F225 Engines

There is a very interesting article on the Yamaha F225 corrosion problems in this month's Boat US magazine. Seems like they have never issued a TSB but have a repair kit available.

    Thermostats

Folks, I had a problem with my F200 Yamaha on a 208 Adventure overheating. I would run it for about 25 minutes at 3500 RPM and my alarm would sound and the engine would cut back to idle. I decided to check this out myself. I replaced the water pump impeller over the winter and now tackled the...

    Marine Gathering Permit Fee

Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley (D) wants to institute a "marine gathering permit fee" if you are going to have an event or a raft-up of more than 50 boats. For those of us that are familiar with O'Malley, there is not a thing in Maryland that he won't tax. Disgusting!

    Bad day on the water

It was a beautiful day here in the Low Country and I took my 208 out for a pleasure cruise, just me and a few cigars and some Gator Ade. After about and hour, my overheat alarm went off and my F200 Yammie backed off. After a few minutes I started her up again and noticed that she is not peeing...

    JP Marine Weld

The marina broke off my transducer on the stern of my Adventure. Rather than go through the hassle of getting a new one and running the cable, I used some JP Marine Weld on it. So far, it as held on four off shore trips. Great stuff!

    GPS Question

I am thinking of replacing my GPS unit on my Adventure with a new Lowrance. I see them as having an internal GPS antenna. Will these units work mounted under a hardtop or will I have to buy an external antenna? I am not planning to add radar.

Shore power, battery charger inverter questions

I have a 2004 208 Adventure. I have two batteries with a switch. I have a Hubble 30 AMP shore power connection, a Promariner-12 battery charger and an inverter with switch in the cabin. I am not sure how to use the battery charger. The wiring from the charger goes to the batteries and the...

    Ethanol Rears Its Ugly Head

Well, it looks like ConAgra's campaign contributions worked. The USA Today reports that the EPA has given it's official okie-doakie to produce gasoline with the 15% ethanol content. Watch were you gas up this summer, fellow mariners!

    Radar

I'm thinking about putting a Furuno 1623 radar on my Adventure with a hardtop. I only go offshore 5 to 10 miles but there are a lot of buoys marking artificial reefs where I go and a lot of other boats. I picked this unit due to price and the admiral will not authorize additional funds. Any...

    Thanks, Yamaha Engineers

Well, the Yamaha engineers saved me from myself. After rinsing out my F200 on my Adventure, I neglected to twist the water line connector tight. As I ran the boat, unbeknown to me, the thing was leaking pretty bad, then came undone. My engine dropped back to 2000 RPM and the overheat alarm...

    Battery charger

In the aft starboard compartment of my Adventure, near battery #1, I have a ProMariner ProStart 12 battery charger. There is no on-off switch. Am I correct to assume that when I hook up my shore power cable that the charger automatically comes on? It appears that the unit is wired to my shore...

    Big Government Strikes Again!

For all you Chesapeake Bay fishermen.....from the Associated Press: State officials say all Maryland recreational anglers must register with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration before fishing in 2010. The requirement is part of a federal initiative to help ensure the long-term...

    Another Dealer Closing

It is sad to learn that another Grady dealer is closing. Nautica Marine in Georgetown, SC opened in 1967 and became a Grady dealer shortly thereafter. The owner, Kay Croker, passed away last fall and the family wants to consolidate their business in their Wilmington and Moorehead City, NC...

    New Adventure Owner

I recently purchased a 2004 GW Adventure with a F-200 Yamaha. It has every option including one I need some info about. On the port side stern area there is a square box marked "Hubble". I appears to be shore power connection and has a converter for a standard extension cord. Am I correct...
